FSU Credit Union presents Saturday Matinee of the Arts
In conjunction with Seven Days of Opening Nights
At the Tallahassee Museum

Tallahassee, FL. – For the fifth consecutive year, the Tallahassee Museum will host Saturday Matinee of the Arts in conjunction with the tenth season of the Florida State University production of Seven Days of Opening Nights. Enjoy this fun filled free admission day that showcases the breadth and diversity of cultural organizations from the Big Bend region. Saturday Matinee of the Arts 2008 is presented by FSU Credit Union and will feature "Artists in Action" to compliment Curators in Action, the temporary exhibit in the Phipps Gallery.

Saturday Matinee of the Arts is a family-friendly celebration of our region’s rich cultural diversity. Highlights of this free day include:

· View the special exhibition, Curators in Action, in the Phipps Gallery;

· Be entertained by a variety of dance, drama, and music performances;

· Watch artists as they create their masterpieces;

· Enjoy exhibits and displays from local museums, parks, and historic sites;

· Participate in hands-on activities;

· Take mementos of the day home;

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of some of Tallahassee’s most prominent and established organizations. Some of the performing artists who will entertain you this year include: FSU Dance Repertory Theatre, Tallahassee Ballet, Troupe Arabesque, Mau ‘oli’oli Hawaiian Dancers, Florida High School Story-tellers, the Sarah Mac Band, and the Hot Pepper Steppers. This year’s line-up also includes the following well-known visual artists: Sculptor George Blakely, Painter Eluster Richardson, Fiber Artist Valerie Goodwin and Landscape Photographer Christopher Mallison. Other cultural institutions participating in the Matinee include: Council on Culture and the Arts (COCA), Mary Brogan Museum of Arts and Science, Mission San Luis, and the Goodwood Museum and Gardens.

The Museum is open from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. with the Saturday Matinee of the Arts activities scheduled between 10 A.M. and 4 P.M.

The Tallahassee Museum is a 52-acre Museum located in SW Tallahassee on beautiful Lake Bradford (3945 Museum Drive) where history, nature, and wildlife are intertwined to tell an intriguing story about Florida’s natural and cultural history. This unique Museum, 1880s farmstead, historical buildings, natural habitat zoo and scenic grounds provides hands-on learning and entertainment for all ages. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM and Sundays from 12:30 PM until 5:00 PM. Admission Fees: $9/Adults, $8.50/Seniors (65+) & College Students (with valid ID); $6/Children (4-15); and free for Kids 3.and under. ADMISSION IS FREE FOR MEMBERS.
