Tallahassee Irish Society Celebrates James Joyce’s Ulysses
Tallahassee Irish Society (TIS) plans to celebrate legendary literary genius James Joyce’s Ulysses on Bloom’s Day, 7 pm, Saturday, June 16 at the upstairs of Chez Pierre Restaurant, 1215 Thomasville Road. The occasion is the second of the "In Praise of the Spoken Word" series. A special menu of Irish favorites will be on the menu and prizes will be given for the best circa 1904 Dublin costumes. Seating is limited to the first 80 arrivals and there is a $5 cover charge for the evening.
Joyce’s masterful novel covers a day in the life of Leonard Bloom in Dublin in 1904. The inexhaustible richness of Joyce’s writing has endured and is part of the proud legacy of Irish literary tradition. Music, recitations a skit or two will round off the celebrations a wee bit later than the traditional Dublin "Bloom’s Day pub crawl," as the country’s time is five hours ahead of ours. But all are welcome to hoist a glass of Guinness to the genius of Joyce.
