Welcome to The Great Outdoors. Tallahassee and the surrounding areas has one of the worlds largest number of springs, & streams

Wakulla River / Wakulla Springswakulla river paddling

The Wakulla River is a clear, spring fed river that originates in Wakulla County and flows 9 miles to the merge of the St. Marks River at San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park. 

The Wakulla River is influenced by daily tides of the Apalachee Bay and Gulf of Mexico.  Wakulla Springs is one of the world’s largest and deepest fresh water spring.  The Wakulla Springs and the first 3 miles of the river are protected and is part of the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.  The designated canoe trail is 4 miles long and starts at the bridge off of County Road 365.

Wakulla County Springs
- Indian Springs
This spring is located on private property owned by the YMCA of Tallahassee.

- McBride Slough Spring
This spring is located on private property six miles northwest of St. Marks and a few miles southeast of the Edward Ball Wakulla Spring State Park.  The slough is visible at the bridge on County Road 267, Bloxham Cutoff Road between Woodville Highway and Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.

- Northside Spring #1
This spring is located within the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.  It is about 1.5 miles north of the lodge.  Please see park officials for permission and directions.

- Northside Spring #2
This spring is located within the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.  It is 50 feet west of Northside Spring #1.

- Panacea Mineral Spring
This spring is located in a city park in Panacea.  Take US Highway 319 to US Highway 98 to Panacea. The spring is 0.3 mile northwest of the intersection of State Road 372A and U.S. Highway 98.

- Sally Ward Spring
This spring is located within the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.  The entrance road runs along the northwest side of the pool.

- Shepperd Spring
This spring is located with the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge off of Wakulla Beach Road.  The spring can be accessible by hiking the Florida Trail or paddling to the head of Sheppard Spring Creek via Goose Creek Bay.

- Spring Creek Springs Group
This spring is surrounded by private property but can be accessed from the Apalachee Bay via boat. 

- Wakulla Springs
This spring is located within the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.  The spring can be seen below the diving platform.  There is a designated swimming area with sandy beach located in front of the Wakulla Springs Lodge.  There is food available at the lodge, a giftshop, hiking trails and playground, picnic facilities.  For a fee there is a river boat ride. 

- Wakulla No Name Spring
This spring is located within the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.  It is remote and is not accessible.
