St. Marks

The St. Marks River originates in the hardwood and cypress river swamps of the Red Hills area and flows 35 miles to the Apalachee Bay.  The St. Marks River disappears underground at the historic site of Natural Bridge in Leon County and resurfaces a short distance south of the St. Marks Spring in Wakulla County.  The St. Marks River joins the Wakulla River north of the bay at the San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park.

Springs
- Cray’s Rise
This spring is located in Wakulla County within the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge off of County Road 372, Surf Road.

- Horn Spring
This spring is located in Leon County 3 miles upstream from the Natural Bridge Battlefield State Historic Site.  It is accessible by canoe from Natural Bridge.

- Natural Bridge Springs
This spring is located on private property in Leon County 13.5 miles east of Tallahassee or .3 miles east of the Natural Bridge Battlefield State Historic Site.

- Rhodes Springs
This spring is located on private property in Leon County 13 miles east of Tallahassee.  The spring run is visible at the intersection of Natural Bridge Road and Old Plank Road.

- Newport Springs
This spring is located in Wakulla County .9 mile north on Old Plank Road in Newport.  The spring is on the right side of the road.
 
- Saint Marks Spring
This spring is located in Wakulla County on the St. Marks River 6 miles north of the Newport Bridge.
