Lake Jackson is a shallow, flat bottom body of water known as the Disappearing Waters. It is located northwest of Tallahassee in the Red Hills Region. It covers over 4,700 acres and is 8 miles long. It is known as a premiere bass fishing lake.
There are seven landings around the lake. When the lake is dry it offers a great view of the lake bottom and the sink holes. During this time you can drive or walk on the lake bottom. The lands surrounding the lake are some of the state’s greatest historical resources.
There are also two parks around the lake. The J. Lee Vause County Park located off of Old Bainbridge Road offers picnic tables, restrooms, a boardwalk to view the lake, and a playground. The other park is the Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park located off of Crowder Road. This area was occupied by Native Americans eight centuries ago. This area is known as the Southern Ceremonial Complex with six temple mounds. The state park offers picnic tables, nature trails, and interpretive exhibits.
