Attractions Open Thanksgiving Weekend

With research* showing the No. 1 visitor trip purpose to Tallahassee is "visiting friends and relatives," the Tallahassee Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (TACVB) wants to arm local residents who may have guests to entertain with information on what attractions are open over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Beyond the obvious shopping and movies, Tallahassee offers a wide variety of activities from camellia strolling, plantation tours and Christmas preparations to offer the best experience for out-of-town guests (http://www.VisitTallahassee.com).

Amidst rolling hills, sweeping canopy roads and crisp, breezy nights, Tallahassee presents a weekend full of festivities. On Thanksgiving Day, families walk off the stuffing and mashed potatoes among the camellias at Maclay Gardens, open 8 a.m. until sunset, or pedal down the St. Marks Trail. Over the weekend, The LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts rings in the Christmas season with lighted sculpture gardens, unique ornaments, decorations and more. The Museum of Florida History’s new exhibit, Seminole People of Florida, offers a glimpse into the tribe’s survival and success with more than 150 artifacts on display. A short drive to Thomasville presents Pebble Hill Plantation, providing festive tours of the main house and open grounds.

"When tasked with planning Thanksgiving for the entire family, we want residents to know there are things to do when the food and football are over."
